As the long-awaited The Woman in the Window hits Netflix, everyone's abuzz about its star award-winning actress Amy Adams. The thriller focuses on a woman (Anna) who struggles to convince her friends and family that she witnessed a murder….outside her window. It’s been a long time in the works, since the 2018 bestseller by A.J. Finn (also known as Dan Mallory) was optioned even before it came out, and the release was pushed back twice for reshoots and the pandemic. Amy plays agoraphobic Anna who doesn’t leave her house, spending most of the film wearing a robe and pajamas and only interacting with her ex-husband and their daughter.
Amy’s home life couldn’t be more different IRL. Amy Adams' husband, Darren Le Gallo, is the one who supports her successful acting career (swoon). Besides traveling with her on multiple film shoots over the years, the artist—and former actor—has accompanied her to dozens of awards ceremonies. As for his own projects, Le Gallo downplays his visual art and music pursuits as "makes stuff" in his Instagram bio. But, he has a degree in painting from Abilene Christian University in Texas and produces "dream-like paintings." He also shares adorable photos with Amy and their family life together.
After all, their love story has spanned nearly two decades (!), and A LOT has happened in that time. Here's the play-by-play on Amy Adams and her husband Darren Le Gallo's relationship.
1
2001: Amy and Le Gallo meet in acting class.
The duo first crossed paths in acting class, but the timing wasn't right. "I had another boyfriend, and Darren was dating some girl," Amy told Vanity Fair in 2008. "I did scenes with him, and I liked him and thought he was really sweet." But she didn't see him as boyfriend material just yet. "He wouldn’t be assertive enough," she continued. "I was really focused on the classes—he was a little scared of me." (Scared? Of that face? No way!)

2002: They go on their first date.
Amy and Le Gallo didn't start dating until they acted together in Pennies, a short film. "I got to know him outside of class," Amy told Vanity Fair. "And I just found him to be such a genuine, caring person."
And he'd become more "assertive" since they'd first met. "He demanded that we go out on a date. He said, 'I know you’re getting over this [other] guy, but I’m taking you out on Wednesday,'" Amy recalled to the publication. "...And I was like, 'And so you are!'"

March 5, 2006: Amy and Le Gallo make their first public appearance at the Oscars.
After Amy snagged her first Oscar nom for her supporting actress role as Ashley in Junebug, she and Le Gallo attended their first major award ceremony as a couple (nbd). While she didn't take home the Academy Award that night, she still spent the night celebrating with Le Gallo at the Vanity Fair after party.

April 2008: Le Gallo proposes to Amy.
After dating for six years, Le Gallo reportedly popped the question around April. Of course, Amy said yes, but didn't announce the news until late July and kept mum on the proposal's details (sigh). She did clear up one thing in her VF interview at the time though: "No, I’m not pregnant. I can confirm. I’ve been engaged for four months. I think we’d know!"

May 15, 2010: The couple welcomes their first child.
Amy gave birth to daughter Aviana Olea Le Gallo, the couple's first (and so far, only) child, on May 15, 2010. "Mom and baby are home and doing great," her rep told People at the time. "Everyone’s healthy and happy."
Since then, Le Gallo has shared multiple pictures of Aviana, calling her "the best gift" and referring to her and Amy as "my two angels." (Um, could he BE any cuter?!)

May 2, 2015: Amy and Le Gallo get married.
After 13 years together, Amy and Gallo had a classic spring wedding. The couple always wanted to get married "in spring or fall" but had to keep pushing their wedding plans back because of Amy's jam-packed work schedule. "I want something very family-oriented and laid-back," Amy told Vanity Fair in 2013.
When the couple finally tied the knot, it was just as they'd hoped: a "small, intimate ceremony" at a close friend’s house outside of Santa Barbara, California, per People. Though the nuptials were a top-secret, no-photo affair (sorry), the publication reported that Amy wore a Marchesa gown.

January 11, 2017: Amy and Le Gallo attend Amy's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony.
Amy received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star with Le Gallo, Aviana, and Amy's mom at her side. Throughout her entire career (including five Oscar noms), Le Gallo has been Amy's unwavering support system. "He’s not competitive with me,” Amy told Vanity Fair in that same 2008 story. "He has a wonderful talent, and there aren’t many people in the world who are like that, where he does not think that my success is his failure. He just doesn’t see it like that, and I don’t either."
She repeated that sentiment in a 2016 interview with The Guardian: "...He travels with me and helps to keep the family together, and I really do appreciate that. But I don’t value it because he’s a man doing it, I value it because he’s my partner… My husband is an extremely competent caregiver."

February 14, 2019: Le Gallo posts the sweetest V Day Instagram.
The couple keeps their spark alive and well. On Valentine's Day, Le Gallo posted this adorable pic of him and Amy cuddled up in the car. "Happy Valentine's Day" was the simple caption, accompanied by the hashtag #mybetterhalf (which btw, he posts on every pic of Amy).
Here's hoping his next Insta captures them celebrating her first Oscar win together...
